As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.—Isaiah 55:10-11
We thank you for all You have given us this winter and we are among the very blessed and highly favored when we have a place to call home, a warm bed to sleep in, adequate clothing for the cold weather, warm and healthy food to eat, dependable transportation, reasonable health to withstand brutal temperatures, a job to report to, enough money to cover the high costs of living during the winter months, friends and family who care about us…
Thank You Father for Your goodness and for considering our needy state! We should never overlook Your goodness, take Your blessings for granted, nor be full of complain and discontent about that which You send our way, but be full of praise and thanksgiving day and night. Surely You are good toward us and your mercy endures forever!
Because you deliver on Your promises that the needy will not always be forgotten nor the hope of the afflicted ever perish, cause our own hearts to be tender and compassionate toward the less fortunate, the poor and needy. Cause us to consider how taxing the winter is for some and do what we can to help alleviate their distress. Certainly Father, You have blessed us to be a blessing to others, not to hoard, withhold, or feel resentment, but give generously, for our God loves a cheerful giver and has been generous to us!
We pray, give consolation to the grieving and all who suffer any loss during the harsh winter months. Restore them with the gentle winds and rains of spring yet come. Be their comfort and wipe away their tears with Your own hand. We pray for those who have suffered loss due to fire, flood, harsh winds, exposure to the elements; Lord, in your mercy hear our prayer…
Be with us this winter Lord, and if You will, soften the harsh winds, blow out the raging fires, steady the destructive waters and all that would harm or overcome us. We do not always understand the purpose of winter and the discomfort it can bring in the total scheme of things, but we do realize all things, even the weather and seasons are in Your hands and so we trust You to keep and help and pray that the winter accomplishes all You have purposed through it. In Jesus’ name. Amen
